10/25/2023 – RIP – our PAUC Home Page Crested Saguaro Cactus

It is with a sad heart to announce that our PAUC Home Page Crested Saguaro Cactus succumbed to the 2023 summer heat wave this year that took out a lot of other saguaro cactus in the Vulture Mtn OHV Area.  We found our Crested Saguaro Cactus toppled over on our Oct 14th club ride.  Its younger sibling crested saguaro cactus, about 100′ behind it, had toppled over during the heavy Spring 2023 rains.  Thanks for the trail memories and for the many years of being so majestic and awe-inspiring for so many of our members. So sad…

03/31/2021 – We have installed a new “Waiting List” software plugin on our internet website’s Events Calendar for our PAUC members.   Once the ride leader’s vehicle registration limit is reached, PAUC members will be put on a first come-first serve “Waiting List” initially up to 5 more vehicles.   We may expand it to more slots later.   When someone Unregisters from a ride, the next person in the Waiting List will automatically be Registered for the ride and will receive an email notification.   Only paid supporting members can see and register for our club ride postings on our internet website calendar.   They also automatically receive email notifications whenever a ride is posted.

01/16/2021 – Our club’s January 2021″Trail Buddy Award” is being awarded to Mary Cooper Hamill.   With sincere appreciation and genuine gratitude, the Phoenix ATV / UTV Club recognizes Mary Cooper Hamill, a 4^th generation local rancher, as a “Trail Buddy”.  Without hesitation and with a desire to share her family’s rich Arizona ranching heritage, Mary graciously opened her ranch gates for club members on April 14, 2020 and Jan 16, 2021 to tour her historical ranch including the site of the 1890 Walnut Grove Dam Disaster.  With thorough descriptions while pointing out the remaining dam landmarks, Mary provided us with a true visual of the dam’s construction in 1886 and its eventual demise in 1890.

01/16/2021 – PAUC Walkers Gulch-Cooper Ranch-1890 Walnut Grove Dam Disaster Ride was added to the Events Calendar.   This is the club’s first fundraising Benefit Ride at $20 per vehicle. The ranch owner, Mary Cooper Hamill, is paying for ranch hands to work the ranch while she is care giving her grown daughter in Phoenix who may need surgery.    Donations are non-refundable and not tax-deductible.  All proceeds are passed through the club to Mary as a Thank You from our club.

04/16/2020 – Video – How to post a Ride or Event on the PAUC website Event Calendar (19:18) was added to the Educational Forum Videos Library and our YouTube Channel.  This educational video explains “How to post a Ride or Event on the PAUC website Event Calendar.” A PAUC member has to request a special “Author” role from the website administrators after viewing the video. The Author role gives the member additional capabilities beyond a normal “Customer” role assignment. The website administrators can also create a Ride or Event posting for them if the member sends them a ride description Word document.

03/04/2020 – Video – Sample “Happy Trails and Dusty Roads” Newsletter (3:25) was added to the Educational Forum Videos Library.  This short video highlights the content of a typical “Happy Trails and Dusty Roads” newsletter that is under the Members-Only-Access menu of the Phoenix ATV/UTV Club website. The Jan 2020 issue highlighted a 56-mile desert/mountain club ride from the town of Wickenburg to the Stanton Goldfields/Ghost Town then up to the town of Yarnell for lunch and a visit to the Shrine of St Joseph of the Mountains followed by a return through the Hassayampa River Box Canyon with 3 miles of water crossings.

03/04/2020 – AllTrails.com was added to the Outside Reference Library.  The AllTrails website is a comprehensive directory of non-motorized hiking trails around the United States.  This link will filter to the available Arizona hiking trails within scenic OHV areas. 

03/03/2020  –  RiderPlanet-USA.com was added to the Outside Reference Library.   Select MAP VIEW on this website.  The Rider Planet website is a comprehensive directory of the best and most popular ATV trails, dirt bike trails, scenic OHV and UTV routes and motocross tracks in the United States.  This link will filter to the available Arizona trails but is also available for viewing other states.

02/27/2020 – Trail Talk Video – Four Peaks Summit Ride & EL Oso Mine Tour (27:27) was added to the Ride Video Gallery.  This 27-minute video combines a “Trail Talk” presentation with a recent club ride’s Photo Album and embedded trail ride videos to show a typical Trail Talk presentation at one of our quarterly Phoenix ATV/UTV Club (PAUC) meetings. The video highlights the Feb 8, 2020 PAUC club ride out to the Four Peaks Lone Pines Summit and over to the EL Oso Mine with footage of exploring the inside of the mine. At the end, Bob Maitzen, PAUC President talks about the startup of the club, its member benefits, social media platforms (Facebook Group/YouTube Channel), Arizona’s OHV Areas, the 700-mile Arizona Peace Trail system, regional clubs and various local Facebook ATV Groups in Phoenix and around the state.

02/19/2020 – Trail Talk Video – How to Download / Use / Share a GPS Track (23:22) was added to the Educational Forum Videos Library.  This 23-minute Trail Talk video shows the Phoenix ATV/UTV Club member how to (1) download a club GPS track (KLM and GPX formats) onto their computer; (2) view the KLM file in Google Earth browser software; (3) upload the KLM file (with waypoints and gpx file) into Garmin Basecamp mapping software; and (4) download the file into your GPS Unit device and/or share the file with other friends as a File/Export.
